Communications Update: Connecting with Consumers

The NAIC’s 2017 consumer outreach plan focused on the Core Four: auto, home, life and health insurance. Our most recent Health Insurance – Rethink Your Research, focused on open enrollment. Launched on Insure U, we featured an Annual Health Insurance Check Up to help guide consumers through the process of selecting their coverage. The initial news release was picked up by 235 media outlets, garnering more than 85 million impressions while our Disasters Redefined and Changing Lanes campaigns garnered more than 332 million impressions.

The number of downloads for the Home Inventory and WreckCheck apps are nearing 95,000.

Rita Moreno brings home awards and results!

After the successful first act of her consumer outreach campaign, the legendary entertainer is back with a television public service announcement (PSA) that focuses on the importance of understanding your finances and how Insure U can help.  The TV PSA has aired more than 9,800 times, generated more than 51 million impressions and has an ad equivalency of $2.7 million thus far.

The NAIC first partnered with the well-known actress in 2016 to educate seniors about the importance of insurance and financial literacy. Her radio PSA which wrapped up in November aired in 50 jurisdictions and has an estimated ad value of approximately $11.1 million. Rita's radio PSA continues to break NAIC PSA records with more than 89,000 airings and more than 720 million impressions.

The nationally televised PSA gives viewers a look at a "day in her life" and is rooted in Rita's simple, yet meaningful life motto: "Keep moving." Rita hopes her message inspires families to make smart insurance and retirement planning decisions together and to share those important decisions with the younger generations in the family.

Moreno is currently starring in Netflix's remake of "One Day at a Time."

NAIC attends Jump$tart Conference

The NAIC was a proud sponsor of the 2017 Jump$tart Conference, a financial literacy education conference. More than 300 K-12 educators from across the country traveled to Washington, D.C. for this year’s conference. It’s the only national conference for classroom teachers dedicated to personal finance education in the classroom.

Pennsylvania Insurance Department Consumer Liaison David Buono led a workshop on the NAIC’s “Insurance 101 for Teen Drivers.” It’s an interactive module to help educators teach teens how dangerous driving decisions negatively impact auto insurance costs.  Look for more fnancial literacy in 2018.
